From the recording "Ol' Mare" and "Dooley"
Recorded live using a vintage RCA mic for the cd SLOPPY BUD GRASS, which was released in 2017.
While messing around playing and singing "Brother Where Art Thou" by Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys with his youngest daughter Lainy, Jamie came up with this opening riff and lyrics in the kitchen entertaining Lainy.
She laughed, he said hold on, went out on the porch for 20 minutes, and came back with this song.
The musical structure is obviously influenced by Jamie's own influence from Bluegrass and Rock-A-Billy during his childhood.
Lyrics
Dooley, was a good looking fellow,
never was alone
never sang that Led Zepplin song...
been a long time since I rock and rolled
The girl's naive, you caught her eye,
she don't even know why!
Dooley, won't you leave that girl alone?
Weird things running around her brain,
good lord, she's going insane!
Dooley, won't you leave that girl alone?
Well Dooley,
don't you take that girl away from her man!
Well Dooley,
that girl's the only thing he understands
Dooley
don't you take that girl away from her man!
Well Dooley,
that girl's the only thing he understands
One More!
